When you have chosen a software for your blog or website there are three very important things to you should do:
- Create a section in your bookmarks to the online handbook and begin reading. While it’s okay to read as you go, many of the software packages have a quick start guide you may want to read all of the way through before starting. Then you can go back and read more of the details on your software. This will take several days if not weeks, so you will want to have a direct bookmark to it. Plus, you will be referring back to this for the lifetime of your site, so it’s a good thing to have handy.
- Create a username for your software’s community forum. There is nothing more frustrating than having a problem with your software and having to take the time to register at a forum. Get it done now, read through the rules of the forum and introduce yourself. Also, remember to say thank you when you do get some help.
- Remind yourself that there is a learning curve when you start to use a new software, but you aren't married to it. When you have taken the time to chose a software for your site or blog, like Joomla or Wordpress, you'll need to give it some time to use it for daily tasks before deciding if you wish to keep it or not. If you think you are unhappy with it, be patient and learn the ins and outs. You can always change, but you will want to give it 'the old college try' first.
