When blogging about a news article, be sure to include a link to the whole article. This may mean that you have to search off the page where you read the piece and find the original piece by using a search engine. It is important to cite the correct source when using it and citing the source is mandatory in this type of post.
Now you can use a news article in more than one way:
To talk to your readership about current events,
to give your opinion on the piece and what is going on,
as an example about other things you have been saying on your blog,
to get the pulse of your readership concerning the article or
a combination of the above four.
Whatever way you have chosen to use the piece, be sure not to copy it directly on to your blog. You may take quotes and discuss each as you go, but taking too much is considered plagiarism. I generally quote as little as possible in word count - just enough to illustrate the point I'm making.
